The drum and voice play an important part in sound healing.
Drum Therapy and Drum Journey
Drum therapy can be good for muscle or bone pain (not headache or broken bones), arthritis, muscle tension, stress-related symptoms, general relaxation and physical pain. As well as described as being very relaxing, calming, focusing and centreing, clients report enjoying the feel of the strong vibrations on their body of Drum Massage.
The drum does not have to be played close to the body . The drum has been used for healing and altering consciousness since ancient times. Drum Journey, inherited from Shamanic wisdom and practice around the world, uses a repetitive beat to induce a trance state- a very deep relaxed state akin to meditation and dreaming. Modern science explains this as the sound entraining the brain to slower waves, which are associated with numerous physical benefits- lowered blood pressure and heart rate, reduction in stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline and balancing of sodium potassium balance, essential for many bodily functions. Psychological benefits can include information, insights, creativity, awareness, psychic phenomena and shift in perspective. Visuals are common, hence the idea of an inner journey. It can also be helpful for pain control.

Sound Relaxation Session
For a lunch-break treat or as a taster to experience a personal sound work session. Choose from voice bath or drum (including drum massage) and have a little much needed 'me-time'. The sound can facilitate a very deep relaxed state where heart rate, blood pressure and stress hormones all go down and you might experience imagery or insight. One study found this type of sound work more relaxing than a massage!
30mins for £20
Lunchtime soundbaths and gong baths
Time to relax and restore. Apart from the deep nourishing relaxation and the enjoyment of being bathed in sound, benefits people often experience are increased sense of self awareness, feeling more connected to self and life, feeling cleansed or clearer, reduced stress and anxiety, help with pain control. You may also receive information or insight regarding a problem or question.
During this sort of sound work, as the brainwaves entrain to a slower rhythm, we enter a state of consciousness akin to meditation where stress hormones lower, blood pressure and heart rate drop and the brain’s sodium and potassium levels can be balanced. In this state, cellular regeneration can also occur.
The BAST method of sound bath meditation is designed to help facilitate this very deep relaxed state. People usually find sound a much easier way to achieve this kind of state than by meditating. The gongs are often experienced as very powerful and cleansing.
Please bring a yoga mat, blanket, cushion or pillow and a bottle of water.
One to one sessions also available by appointment on Fridays.
Whilst Holistic Voice Therapy can be useful for working with the voice itself, (eg singing, projecting, public speaking, speaking up for oneself) it can also be for transformative therapeutic work, on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Can be particularly helpful for relationship issues – to the self and with others, emotional difficulties, anxiety, tension, pain, insomnia etc. As a holistic therapy we often find working on certain issues or elements be they physical, emotional, mental or spiritual, can free up energy and find we have relief from physical pain. Or working on the thoughts and feelings we have around a physical health problem can bring much benefit on all levels of being and aspects of life. It is also great for deep relaxation.
